2010 Midyear U.S. Wine Market Update

California wine shipments to the U.S. edged up 1.1% during the first half of 2010 on top of a strong 3.6% gain last year that was partially inflated by inventory buildups. Bottled wine imports came roaring back this year, climbing by 4.7 million cases, or 12.4%, in comparison with a 1% decline during the first half of 2009. In contrast, bulk wine imports tripled last year to 12.9 million cases, but this year they dropped by 33% to 8.6 million cases. The net result was that combined shipments of California wines and imports grew 1.8% through June 2010.
